Public Lighting Authority of Detroit begins survey work for demonstration lighting plan

The Public Lighting Authority (PLA) of Detroit said today that it will begin a block-by-block review of street lights in two Detroit neighborhoods next week as it launches two pilot projects that will begin its work to provide reliable street lights in the city.

Public Lighting Authority seeks to identify qualified contractors to begin the initial survey for street lighting

Public Lighting Authority (PLA) today issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to seek qualified contractors for initial street light surveying work.

The PLA has released this RFP to identify qualified Contractors who will execute the work as part of a long term plan that will span over several years to improve the street light system in the City.

The Public Lighting Authority of Detroit (PLA) said today it has named Detroit native Odis Jones, currently serving as Economic Development Director for the City of Cincinnati, as executive director, effective July 15.

The Public Lighting Authority will hold seven public meetings throughout Detroit in coming weeks to engage and gather input from the community as it begins to develop a three-year improvement plan for the city’s lighting system.

The Public Lighting Authority (PLA) is a state-created authority whose mission is to improve, modernize and maintain all street lights in the City of Detroit with brighter, more reliable, more energy efficient lights. The new lights in neighborhoods are 150-watt equivalent LED lights, twice as bright as the 75-watt equivalent High Pressure Sodium Lights that were the standard under the old system. The LED lights are also much more energy efficient than the High Pressure Sodium lights.
